"Do not work for this company, please."

What do you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"Company security. Company is in good financial position. They run their stores with a manager short to save payroll."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Do not work for this company. You will not have fun. You will have a decent paycheck as far as retail goes."

What don't you like about working at Bed Bath & Beyond?

"Too demanding. No work-life balance. They don't care about you personally. Being afraid for your job because you do not want to work 11-12 hours a day is a form of manager abuse or desperate treatment. 10 hours a day should be adequate for any retailer, even though the rest of the civilized world has a work day based on 8 hours. But they want more. Good enough isn't good enough, extols the executives. District Managers are only in it for themselves or the few managers they have an interest in. One gives you a three page work list, then walks out at 5:30 pm every night. As a salaried manager, you are expected to miss dinner with your family to complete his list. The other stays late but on the phone the whole time wondering why you are not finishing his 3 page list with hundreds of hours less at your disposal than when he had the same store in the same position with the same workload. Really fair. I can't wait to come to work now."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Give the working managers a break. They are expecting to complete their own freight with marginal help and less hours dedicated to the same workload as those who came before you. More positive reinforcement to those managers who are in the aisles trying to please a demanding customer whose expectations are off the charts while trying to keep DM's and VP's happy with the floor sets, nightly recovery, and customer service every day. You don't know which way to turn. Give the store manager the tools to succeed. Threat of written corrective measure are over the top and not always the answer."
