Submit a Review"Being a bakery clerk is pretty fulfilling as long as you enjoy working with the customer. As the sole interaction between the bakery and the customer, Publix provides many tools and on-site training to ensure that you are prepared for the tasks at hand. Being the basic position, the bakery clerk role is tailored to provide advancement into other positions easily and is fun to do!"
"I love learning how to be creative with baked goods. As a Graphic Designer it's interesting to see how creativity can be applied on other surfaces instead of on the computer or on paper. I dislike it because of the amount of pressure and pace the employees get pushed with no reward."
"I hate everything. I love nothing. Waste of time."

What don't you like about working at Publix Super Markets?
"Local management has lost the key values that our founder wanted at the local level. (ie honesty)"

What do you like about working at Fry's Food & Drug Stores?
"I like being physically active and the customers, for the most part, are very nice. I work in a very beautiful, upscale store and most of my coworkers are great to work with."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Expect to give 110% and pretty much forget about having weekends off due to demands of having a retail job. You must be available to work they hours and days they need you. Be prepared to wait at least 10-11 months for your health insurance benefits to begin. Don't expect a starting wage that will cover your bills. If these adjustments are not a problem for you, then you will probably thrive at Fry's."
What don't you like about working at Fry's Food & Drug Stores?
"All allotted work hours are determined by a measurement tool (ELMS) that ranks productivity vs. sales. If sales and productivity are up, then there are more workhours that can be distributed among the various departments. We work in an upscale Fry's (the 1st of its kind) and we are expected to give 110% while producing high-end, labor-intensive bakery products that meet & exceed customer expectations. We are not given any slack for having to put forth more labor or going the extra mile, so our department gets hours cut. It would seem logical to me to adjust the ELMS to allow for this difference. Workers are getting burned out at the pace and level of intensity they must work to make meager wages."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"To begin with, I would implement effective communications tools so that every worker on each shift is informed of changes and latest ideas so that there would be fewer discrepanices and surprises. Also, I would encourage an atmosphere of promoting workers' ideas and incorporate them as best as possible so that each employee feels like their ideas matter. In addition, I would foster career advancement so that each worker has an opportunity to move up and better their lives."
