"I worked at Avnet between 2010 and 2018. It acquired my previous employer, Bell Micro in July of 2010, and I accepted a position offered to me. Their work culture was strong and positive, encouraging innovation. I was unfortunately laid off as part of a company wide downsizing. However, I had great relationships with all my coworkers, especially those who worked remote as I did much of the time. My greatest achievement was training 5 offshore contractors in India how to use applications to complete assigned projects. Over a 2 yr span we successfully completed several large projects under my supervision and oversight."

"I have worked for Avnet for a long time now. It's a good company with about 15K employees worldwide. I've learned a lot in my time here and want to continue to grow. However, the lack of technology that the legal department allows us to use is stifling my growth."

"Avnet is acquiring companies too fast and doesn't understand the businesses they are buying, which has caused them to do a reduction in force. I was not affected, however it was way too soon to say the business unit was not producing."

"Young, slick, modern NOT Avnet. If you had BizClass perks at your old job, Avnet will feel very economy, even stingy. Still, it's full of solid, smart, hardworking types, not adult babies like you often answer to in law/finance. Skews noticeably older. Benefits, etc. could be better but my base offer was surprisingly fair and came with work-life balance. Probably not a place where coworkers become your closest BFFs, but that's okay. CAVEAT to above: I work in corporate. Sales seems... ehh."

What do you like about working at Avnet?

"Co-workers for the most part. Typical of most organizations. Above average personal development tools."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Watch your back. The Avnet name does not carry as much weight as management thinks it does. Competitors are very successful against Avnet. Avnet is very higher price-focused. Customers are not willing to pay for extra perceived value. They expect it as part of the business agreement."

What don't you like about working at Avnet?

"Very poor sales management. Reviews contradicted actions. Very political. Complaints were dealt with in a guilty until proven innocent methodology. Disfunctional sales processes and poor decision making (refusing lower margin deals)."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Allow account managers to make final decisions on revenue opportunities. Realize that margins are eroding and value is a challenge, not something with a cost benefit in the present marketplace. Very few will pay extra for pereceived value. Mentoring is selective and too political."
