Working at AUG Signals in Toronto, ON: 1 Employee Reviews

Programmer

"The company is very small and much of the work is outsourced to China. The company focuses more on its water monitoring systems now rather than space/defense like it used to. There are approximately 10 workers at the Toronto location, all crammed into one small room in a historical hotel in downtown Toronto. This company is so small that you'll often see the CEO dropping by to micromanage. The management is extremely disorganized and many individuals are extremely unprofessional. The workplace is filthy; the company does not hire any custodians and actually uses its secretary for cleaning its one washroom. Most of my work involved cleaning and mopping rather than Java programming told in the job description. As mentioned earlier, the workplace location is a "historical" hotel in Toronto, and has been granted special exceptions to Ontario's modern fire/building codes. Many of the workers are Asian due to the business connections AUG Signals has with the East; unfortunately, many are not familiar with the labor laws of Ontario and also have a great amount of difficulty conversing in English. Some of the meetings would turn into contests to see who could yell the loudest and often team members would speak to others in their own language during internal meetings. You'll have to actively "fight" each day just to defend your work. When I came in each day, I would actually be threatened to be fired each day and would be asked to defend my wage, otherwise I would get a reduced wage even though I signed a four month contract. Furthermore, I would also constantly have my credentials questioned, which was quite odd as I had a criminal background check and an official transcript from my institution sent before I worked at AUG Signals."
