Attorney at Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach

What do you like about working at Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach?

"The caliber of attorneys with whom I work, the prestigious clients we defend, both individual and institutional, and the collegial atmosphere."

What don't you like about working at Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach?

"The clients have restricted parameters for specific assignments since I began at Heidell, including production of clients at deposition and trying of cases. I want to utilize my skills and develop my trial expertise in civil cases."

Attorney at Alphen & Santos

What do you like about working at Alphen & Santos?

"Loved the work - split my time between title examination and real estate closings - the commercial closings were especially interesting."

Attorney at Lathrop & Gage

What do you like about working at Lathrop & Gage?

Attorney at Goldman Sachs

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Good pay, good office space, great cafeteria, great views, unstable employment prospect, experience most rudeness ever in this office however, from a female colleague, when I brought it to the attention of Axiom I was let go. Told the project was ending for budgetary concerns."

What do you like about working at Goldman Sachs?

"Good pay, good office, clean, great cafeteria, nice views, one of my bosses, one of my associate attorneys, location, opportunities to make more money if I stayed on."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Know that you can do it, some of the people that work there don't fit in with GSs reputation for exceptionalism."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Give contract attorneys more time to prove themselves, little can be gleaned from a professional's skills in a few weeks."

Attorney at Berry, Appleman & Leiden
in Dallas, TX

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Good place to learn but no place to build a career."

What do you like about working at Berry, Appleman & Leiden?

"Because partners do not want to handle cases with novel issues but want to sell to clients that the firm is competent to handle such challenges, associates who are interested in doind creative and difficult problem solving have ample opportunities."

What don't you like about working at Berry, Appleman & Leiden?

"There are no boundaries between the office and home. Partners expect associates to answer e-mails at all hours of the nights, write memos on complex issues on short time frames without adequate resources, and respond to all inquiries from HR managers instantaneously. The expectations are unrealistic, even for workaholics."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Respect your staff or your talented people will have a very short life span with the company."

"Great place to learn, but no place to build a career."

What do you like about working at Berry, Appleman & Leiden?

"Opportunities to work on a variety of cases and develop skills on challenging cases, especially since more senior attorneys are afraid of these challenges, so you can undertake unique challeges with great autonomy and little oversight."

What don't you like about working at Berry, Appleman & Leiden?

"Senior management has no boundaries, so you will be asked to work on projects when traveling with other clients, when on vacation, when sick... I routinely got e-mails from attorneys asking me to offer feedback, conduct research, make phone calls, or update on the status of on-going projects in the middle of the night (ie 2 a.m.) with the expectation that I respond within an hour."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Respect your staff. That means treat them professionally and allow them down time to breathe. Sucking the life out of an employee only shortens their tenure with the firm."
