What do you like about working at Applied Materials?

"Exciting, challenging, very empowered workforce in the 90s. Since 2003 trend was always downward. As things stabilized from the growth of the 90s, to shrinking, became regimented and a life of avoiding layoffs. I personally avoided 14 of them."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't. Unless you have a unique skill they need and you want to spend a great deal of your time in Asia."

What don't you like about working at Applied Materials?

"Constant overall decline since 2003, working with a perpetual sense of dread. Years of forced time off, the reward for excelling was not being fired. Company developed the ability to lie to itself."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Know what they invested in with Solar, and understand what Applied did well in semiconductor does not apply. Structure the semiconductor business for the size it is instead of continuing the constant internal pain."

"The money was pretty good, and I had a lot of opportunity to learn a lot about semiconductors, the processes and the mechanics of developing them."

"The current CEO doesn't care about the employees, and creates cuts in benefits and pay while increasing his own. Not a good situation anymore."

"Start becoming an innovator again. Take care of your employees."
