10 Research Assistants from Academia Sinica submitted salaries.
Academia Sinica is an academic institution that promotes scholarly endeavor in Taiwan. The academy is based in Taipei and supports research in both the humanities and the sciences. It should not be confused with the Beijing-based Chinese Academy of Sciences, although the two share the same Latin name.
Academia Sinica was founded in mainland China in 1928 by representatives of the Nationalist Government. When the Nationalist Government moved to Taiwan, the academy moved with them.
The academy sets standards for all scientific and humanities research conducted in Taiwan's institutions of higher learning, reporting directly to the Republic of China's President rather than to the Ministry of Education. Academia Sinica is not a teaching institution as such, but it collaborates closely with Taiwan's four teaching universities. The academy does sponsor PhD programs, however, in selected disciplines. Academia Sinica may be best known internationally for the role in plays in Chinese studies.
Academia Sinica employs approximately 800 principal investigators for its research projects, as well as 775 post-doctorate fellows. Over 2,000 PhD students are also associated with the academy. A number of prominent scientists are members of Academia Sinica, including the current U.S. Secretary of Energy, Dr. Steven Chu, who won a Nobel Prize in 1997 for his work with lasers and atoms.
Research Assistant is the highest paying job at Academia Sinica at $36,000 annually.
