Abercrombie & Fitch Careers & Info

Current CEO: Fran Horowitz Abercrombie and Fitch, sometimes abbreviated as A&F, is an American apparel retail chain that is best known for its modern style and edgy advertising campaigns. Although there have been several companies in U.S. history that have used the Abercrombie and Fitch name, the current Abercrombie and Fitch company began in 1988, when the naming rights were sold to Limited Brands. The two previous incarnations of the Abercrombie and Fitch name were both sporting goods stores that focused on adventure sports equipment for outdoor enthusiasts.

With its headquarters in New Albany, Ohio, Abercrombie and Fitch is well known as an innovator within the retail fashion industry. The company no longer requires its store employees, called "brand representatives" and "models," to wear Abercrombie and Fitch clothing, but the company does strongly urge employees to represent Abercrombie & Fitch culture in all that they do. Abercrombie and Fitch careers are often in high demand among young people, as the chain holds a strong market position in the youth fashion industry and employees receive Abercrombie & Fitch benefits such as vacation, personal, and sick time, as well as discounts on clothing and other Abercrombie and Fitch products.

Working at Abercrombie and Fitch is atypical of retail employment in that the company encourages not just the selling of products, but also the selling of the brand. Employees are expected to remain on the cutting edge of the company's "casual luxury" style and are to be seen as leaders in fashion to others. An average Abercrombie and Fitch store employs between 15-20 people and most stores are found within shopping malls, although the company does have some free standing outlet centers throughout the country. Stores are often lit with low voltage lighting and feature modern dance and electronica music playing throughout to create an atmosphere that resembles a dance club.

The company has also been known in recent years for its philanthropic efforts, including scholarships for high school students and fundraising for cancer research. Also, Abercrombie and Fitch have also launched its "A&F Cares" program, which is aimed at education of the public on issues such as diversity and human rights. The company has also started four other brands, including Hollister Co., Gilly Hicks, "abercrombie" (for kids,) and the now defunct Ruehl No.925. Each of these brands has a slightly different feel to them when compared to the modern-meets-classic feel of Abercrombie and Fitch, but each caters to a younger market with the "classic luxury" style the company is known for.
