What don't you like about working at 3M?

"It's a staid corporate infrastructure that makes it difficult to innovate, and they don't seem to take me seriously when it comes to career advancement."

"There is not much room for growth and no emphasis put on innovation or improvement. The business is stuck on old technologies and methodologies. I don't believe it is a very diverse company or that the company cares for its employees, as there is little opportunity with IT in the US - the work has been outsourced."

What do you like about working at 3M?

"People, the image of the company, the work done, the great portfolio of products they have."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Beware of Management who seems very friendly at the beginning and let you down soon after - I had a manager who did not call me once in 3 months (I was calling him once a week), and another one who wanted everything done according to his vision (no liberty to do your work as you feel fit)."

What don't you like about working at 3M?

"Very low management capabilities, company builds on the image they have, marketing is not conducive to any good results, they have the golden egg in various products and don't know how to market it / sale it, management unproductive/not positive mentality."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Change mentality and approach to people and processes, change some managers, return to the employee is our greatest asset principles."

"This company is plagued with contracts that never end. It's very hard to get noticed/move up."

"Stable. Decent benefits and salary. Good coworkers. Deep pockets to survive hard economic times."

"Suggest a short 1-5 year stay unless you are a visible minority or a woman."

What don't you like about working at 3M?

"Dishonesty, lack of integrity. Nepotism rampant. Back-biting. Lack of professionalism with some managers."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Make decisions based on the good of the company. Remember why you are there."

"Bad experience because of other coworkers, and lacking expertise of engineers."

What do you like about working at 3M?

"Worked as a contractor. For me nothing I liked about the place. Too many relatives who got the place cornered/dysfunctional."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The company as a whole is great but in the touch division (microtouch) I wouldn't totally recommend it. The stock keeps on going up and 3M has other great products. The touch screen stuff was fun but they operate borderline with the way any company should operate and treat their employees and contractors."

What don't you like about working at 3M?

"The people in the QA department were horrible. Some people liked to hide tools. Many blame games going around too. Got rid of other temps but expect you to keep the work load the same."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"All were very educated but next to useless in getting anything done."

"I've worked for 3M for 2 years and have found it to be a strong company, with good benefits and security. It is a very large company with the ability to provide support to projects, but ideas or projects that are of limited scope may get brushed aside."

"Most of the time the atmosphere is laid back and the people that work there are fun to work with."

"Try not to miss any work at all while you are a temp, if you want to try and get hired on full time."

What don't you like about working at 3M?

"A lot of the people gossip and cause immature drama."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Hire on temp's full time if they have had numerous recommendations and have worked there more than once as a temp."

"Good compensation and benefits, opportunities to gain experience and work with highly regarded specialists."

"Good experience builder and starting point for your career but there's low retention among younger employees."

What don't you like about working at 3M?

"Stagnant environment, lay offs, low morale and lack of top down communication."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Attract and retain younger talent, stop focusing in the way things been done for decades and turn to true innovation."

"Maybe it's the division I am in, but this company is full of corrupt / incompetent managers/supervisors. It's basically the blind leading the blind. The managers are all buddies who have been hanging out for the past 15-20 years and are all on a nickname basis, there is NO balance of work/family life! Managers who are salaried think nothing of putting in less than 6 hour days and THEY get plenty of family time while the little people "hourly employees" are held to rigid attendance policies."
