"extremely controlling senior management requires approval for the types of decisions that are made a lower levels at other companies. Communication at Sr. levels seems to be limited which results in 3-4 approaches being taken by people on the same program as they support their functional boss over the program boss."

"Embrace Cross Functional IPTs where personnel report to Program Managers for direction on business approach. You need to manage the expectations and goals of the Program Managers, and let them manage the people."

"If interviewing for an overseas assignment, make sure you get all the facts on housing and cost of living allowances as well as relocation/repatriation entitlements."

"Generally work at customer location, rather than corporate; so company culture/comraderie is limited."

"Improve employee mobility within the company. It's tough to move up or laterally, so many of my coworkers have gone elsewhere."

"Prepare to be respectful, prepare to answer some technical questions and be able to cope with stress and abundance of work."

"There was a lot of stress going around and at times, people would lose patience with regard to solving issues. Also in investigations, resources and tools were frequently delayed or were limited, so some investigations would take time. Carpenters' Labor union would frequently file frivolous grievances that drained finances from the company and limited the company's ability to obtain more resources."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Obtain more resources and tools for conducting effective investigations into manufacturing issues. Also to hire more knowledgeable non-union staff. And if possible, get rid of the labor union."

"If you are looking to build your resume or start a career in government contracting, this is a good start."

"It was a fairly restrictive environment as a whole. It is a military defense contractor, so there is none of the traditional perks of working for a tech company."

"Lighten up the environment a little. Allow the developers to wear everyday clothes. IT is a little ridiculous to make devs sit around in a suit and tie."
