"It was a great company to work for. They took the time to teach me many different aspects of the Human Resources department as well as different aspects of the company and the business world. I was able to create a carpool program for employees. They gave me freedom to make decisions and allowed me to develop my own spreadsheets and information databases. "Study, study, study. Don't just look at the local website. Go to the national one and check out other states. Be energetic."

What don't you like about working at American Red Cross?

"Very poor leadership. Senior management refused to look beyond the current week and plan for imminent changes on the horizon. Extremely poor communications, both within the house and externally. There is no presence in the community with this operation."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get out there! Tell the community what you're about, the services you provide, the work you do. Take a broom to upper management and start fresh! Find ways to get the board involved. Don't just rehash old 'tried and true' routines."
