Vice President
in Salt Lake City, UT

"Highly toxic work environment"

What do you like about working at Zions Bank?

"President, Scott Anderson, is a great CEO and a very nice person. Harris Simmons is great person as well. There are many nice people working at Zions Bank, just not many at the executive level."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Come across as a good obedient yes man or yes woman. Don't come across as aggressive or wanting to climb the corporate ladder. Be ready to quietly do your job and keep your mouth shut if you end up working there!"

What don't you like about working at Zions Bank?

"Several back-stabbing, self-serving executives in the retail division. Whenever there is a problem their first objective is to assign blame and then figure out a solution. One Retail EVP manages by fear alone and is often referred to as Saddam. He actually brags about firing people to his inner circle. Honestly, I would have rather worked for the real Saddam. The other EVPs often take credit for things they had nothing to do with and then use them to promote themselves for national awards and recognition."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Break the management by fear and intimidation habit. Reach out and communicate to employees (at least direct reports) on a personal level. Put an end to the blame-storming sessions and make an effort to truly understand why the problem occurred and how to fix it going forward. Also, stop back-stabbing people in meetings when there are people they work with or vendors in the meeting!"
