Web developers mainly create websites. More specifically, they meet with clients to see what they want out of a website and what that site's audience will need. They keep an eye on the site's traffic, write code, include graphics and develop applications. The different types of web developers include web architects/programmers, webmasters and web designers.
Skillset: A web developer should be able to sit and work on a task for a long period of time, be able to work in a team setting and study a computer system to figure out its exact needs. Developer should also be artistic and creative as well as detail oriented when it comes to writing HTML code.
Education: An undergraduate degree in computer science or programming is usually required of web developers as well as courses in graphic design. Those who don't do a lot of programming may qualify for jobs with just an associate's degree. For other work settings, a high school diploma may suffice.
Career Path: Web developers need to be able to write HTML code and might be required to know JavaScript and SQL. Developers should also stay up-to-date on the latest software and computer languages.
