"While working as the Utility Manager, I was responsible for several work sections. I thoroughly enjoyed having a broad spectrum of responsibilities. Prior to my arrival, the location would lose power regularly. During my time, I set a schedule to perform load tests on our power plants to ensure reliability of equipment and personnel. With sufficient practice, our workers were able to completely restore power within 45 minutes, which previously was a minimum of 1.5 hours. I had the opportunity to manage the electric shop where we were responsible for maintaining over 160 medium voltage transformers and one main substation. I really enjoyed sitting down and going over diagrams to increase my knowledge on the electrical grid and applying that knowledge on a daily basis. Unfortunately, every job has its downfalls. There were two things that made my job undesirable. Working with foreign nationals created a language barrier and often times caused breakdowns in communication. The other issue was a double edge sword... while I enjoyed the fast pace job and constant problem solving, everyone needs a break from time to time. There was not much time to relax and enjoy family. However, the opportunity and work as the Utility Manager was remarkable."
