"I worked in the IT department. For their customer support, they employ mostly students with a few full-time employees. I was brought on in my second year of undergrad and received a full paid-training on the University's systems and how to provide good customer service both over the phone and in person. The environment is really nice as you work alongside mostly other students and the full-time staff are on the younger side. However, they do know what they are doing and without this office the University would not function. It is unfortunate that the University is looking to cut funding in certain areas which include the IT department which already has to function using out of date technology (some of the computers used in the office need to be updated badly.) The work isn't very difficult as long as you pay attention to training and learn where common issues can happen within the University's systems. However if dealing with customers is not something you want to do then don't apply for this job when applications are open. Students who call in are generally very nice, however most of the time you either have to deal with very old faculty who do not want to learn how computers work or helicopter parents who have no shame yelling at a stranger over the phone."
