"Overworked, under-paid, under-appreciated until you put in your 2 weeks notice..."

What do you like about working at United Natural Foods?

"There was quite a few good things about this place. The people. All the people I worked with (minus a few detractors) were good people. The upper management (both in and out of my department) seemed very driven and focused. They made every effort to keep people on the same track for the same goal. Company benefits included options to purchase natural & organic foods direct from the company at a lower price than at the grocery store."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you have a pulse and any experience with a job you are applying for you'll be hired. Just make sure you negotiate your pay right off the bat, because they'll likely give you 2% bonuses at best until you retire / quit."

What don't you like about working at United Natural Foods?

"There was a lot of fluctuation regarding management & staff towards the end. On many occasions people that worked the hardest, the longest, and made sacrifices daily for the company were the ones that were treated the worst. Those that didn't make waves or weren't high profile were often forgotten. Middle / lower management often micromanaged and lowered the overall performance of it's employees by lowering morale. Many good people left and others were let go. One in particular sold his home and moved his entire family across country after being given a middle management position at the company headquarters. He had worked for the company for over 10+ years. He committed suicide less than a year after being let go (RIP). You can't blame the company directly for his suicide, but you can say that a situation like this makes you really consider your own ordeal with a company. Beyond that, leaving this company was difficult. In the final days before I left I was offered anything under the sun to stay. Always be aware that if and when a company does this it will be short lived until they find your replacement and then can you."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Only the golden rule of employment - Treat your employees as you wish to be treated!"
