As a teaching assistant in UMBC, my impressions are that teachers are very responsible for the courses they are teaching and students are eager to learn and wish to put what learn in class into practical use. "I've worked for LITS for three years now. I am now graduating, otherwise I would love to continue working there. The job allows for a perfect balance for schoolwork, and the pay is some of the best student pay in the University. You need some skill to get in, however they do understand you're going to school to acquire these skills, and will gladly help you build them."
"The university does not provide competitive wages as comparable institutions. The academics are quite good but the social life leaves much to be desired for a public institution. Gym facilities are pathetic at best, and parking is a huge pain. The administration is excellent and communication is quite good on campus. There are many innovations happening here that are a pleasure to become a part of."
"Good place to work. I would recommend this place to work."
"Good experience working in the cs lab."
"Nice environment to work and helpful colleagues."
"I have worked as a LAN Admin for the School of Medicine for 15 years. The experience is great but as a State employee we have faced pay cuts and furloughs in the past. Raises are also given by formula rather than actual merit, even though they are called merit increases."
"I have worked at the Department of Information Technology for 2 years. Over the years, I have learned many new skills that I will continue to use to this day. The work culture is great and the people are always willing to help when you do not understand something."
