Software Engineer

"A great place to go to see first hand how things break and why people in the industry burn out."

What do you like about working at Turbine Technologies?

"Cool culture. It's relaxed and fun, until frustrations kill it."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be professional, but loose. Those far away from the relaxed culture rarely get the job, but know your s**t. They hire good engineers."

What don't you like about working at Turbine Technologies?

"Turnover of engineers is very high, yet managers are never considered candidates for dismissal. Planning stages always finish weeks over estimates, while the implementation phases they plan are aren't pushed back. Estimates from engineers are usually ignored, and the same management that took 50% longer than expected to PLAN a feature has no problem expecting engineers to finish a feature in 1/3 the time the engineers implementing it expect it to take. If it fails, it's always the engineer's fault. Management (of which there are 2-3x as much of as more competent companies) bicker with each other, using engineers as pawns, and in the end they always deflect blame elsewhere. Additionally, nepotism among managers is high, with certain families far outperforming abilities by advancing up the job tree."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"If turnover in a group is high and they constantly fall behind, it's probably NOT just an amazing string of bad hires... It's probably YOUR fault."
