"I've worked for The Dickson Firm for just a few months. It is a successful plaintiff's firm specializing in nursing home litigation. Defending a very vulnerable population is satisfying work I feel good about. The office space is very nice but the Principal is verbally abusive to all associates and he creates a toxic environment and very high attorney turnover. We have lost four attorneys in the last six months, 80 percent of the Firm. Consequently, everyone is always new and there is no continuity. I knew the reputation of the Principal before I joined the Firm but with my background, I felt confident I could change the culture. After a good faith effort and a couple of heart to heart discussions with the Principal, I realize I cannot change someone who does not want to change. I think his success has justified his behavior. People dread coming to work and go home sobbing. It does not have to be that way."

"I have worked for the Firm for just a few months and it is a toxic environment. Great work, tremendous office spaces but it is obvious why turnover for attorneys is so high, 80 percent in 6 months. Did my research, thought I knew what I was getting into, but have concluded the situation is untenable long term. Have tried a number of ways to fix the culture with very limited success in that regard. The Firm Principal does not want to change and he resents efforts to change the culture. Nobody can have a good idea but him. I am not a sensitive person but it’s tough to work in an atmosphere where everyone feels belittled and trapped. I have always believed that it is best to change an organization from the inside, however, this organization will never change. The Firm has been successful but it truly is a place where theres no creativity."
