Working at Texas Veterans Commission in Austin, TX: 1 Employee Reviews

Texas Veterans Commission Employee

"Racism, hate speech, and bullying in a state agency. During my 3-year employment with FVA, within TVC, I was subjected to bullying, harassment, racism, hate speech, condescension, and misogyny. The former employee (in my position) made a formal complaint against the department director. The complaint was swept under the rug by HR, and the employee was subjected to retaliation in the form of even worse treatment by the director (bullying, condescension, being yelled at). The employee walked out after being called derogatory names by the director, in front of the entire team. During my time at the agency, my department director made derogatory comments regarding employees’ political affiliations, made racist comments, bullied employees, insulted his superiors behind their backs. The most disturbing incident involved the director stating that “All Muslims should be dragged into the street and shot like the filthy animals they are. They aren’t even human.” I reported this incident, and many others, to HR. My claims were supported by two other department employees who also made formal reports against the director. Despite three employees (four, including the employee who walked out) within the FVA department filing similar complaints detailing numerous incidences of bullying, hate speech, inappropriate comments/behavior, and employees being yelled/cursed at, HR claimed the complaints were unfounded, and no action was taken. FVA is the most toxic work environment I have ever experienced. Texas taxpayers’ need to know that their hard-earned tax dollars fund this agency and department, including paying for a racist bully’s salary."
