What do you like about working at Texas Department of State Health Services?

"I liked working and serving our customers (end users). Knowing that they were able to do their jobs meant that I had done my job. I took pride in giving prompt, professional service and maintaining a good relationship with my customers at all aspects of their network usage experience."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Yes, if you have already picked a person for the job your are holding interviews for, please do no hold interviews; just tell us that you intend to put another person into the job and that the interview is really a farce. We could at least understand the truth instead of railing against the lies."

What don't you like about working at Texas Department of State Health Services?

"Management. We never heard a kind word, or had a 1/1000th of an inch of help from them in anything we did. Before we (the network specialists) were out-sourced, we were lied to and back stabbed by management."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"To be completely removed and replaced by people who are not incompetent or politically motivated or kiss ups. We need people who come from the network technicians, and work by the rule of common sense."

"It brought together all my previous experience in broadcast communications, copy writing, proofreading, media buying, and communicating with managers in all our regions."

"Be flexible with prioritizing projects and deadlines. Especially around holidays and vacations, there is some difficulty in completing tasks when you rely on others for information."

"At times, getting funding approved for necessary PR efforts was hindered by red tape."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"A better understanding of generating and creating clear and concise messages to reach the general public concerning available programs."
