Telemarketers are usually outbound call center agents who attempt to sell products and services over the phone. They may be engaged in cold calling or calling people who already have a relationship with a business.
Skillset: This position requires a strong ability to sell and also to describe products and services to people over the phone. Additionally, telemarketers will need to be friendly and able to deal with speaking to a number of people on the phone on a daily basis. Basic computer skills are also required for this job.
Education: The position of telemarketer usually only requires a high school diploma or GED, but many employers prefer that prospective employees have a background in sales or customer service.
Career Path: People who want to excel in this field will need to be very personable and strong salespeople. Telemarketing is also an excellent way to get both call center and sales experience.
