Technical managers are responsible for supervising employees, providing comprehensive training on new machinery, and for promoting quality assurance. On a typical day, a technical manager may send out emails, inspect employee production, and make sure that manufacturing safety measures are being met. Technical managers may also take inventory and assist in developing new products through use of computer software and engineering machinery.
Skillset: Technical managers generally have strong mathematical and science skills. An ability to troubleshoot and repair vehicles, computers, or production machinery is desirable. The type of machinery or equipment the person should have an aptitude for will be dependent on the industry the technical manager works in.
Education: Degrees in vocational technical school and relative work experience are held by many technical managers in blue collar fields. Engineering and physics degrees on either the bachelors or masters level is desirable for advanced technical managers working in production and manufacturing industries.
