What do you like about working at Tai Pan Trading?

"I enjoyed the creativity I was allowed. They are known for their 'out of the box' designs and I was given total freedom. I also was able to manage 4 depts. and a total of 30 employees, which I also love. I enjoy working with people, especially creative people!"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Basically it is a good company and the owners are family oriented. They are closed on Sundays and respect family time."

What don't you like about working at Tai Pan Trading?

"Because of the economy, the owners were understandably worried. Their anxiety transferred to the employees which made a tense workplace sometimes. When the layoffs started, the morale of the store really went down."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"In hindsight, starting a new home accessory business in 2008 at the beginning of the housing downfall was not a good idea. Hiring should have been kept at a minimal. Instead, the store director hired 5 managers and 80 employees. After 6 months, 1 manager and 18 employees were left. It is no fun working for a company when everyone is fearing for their jobs. That particular store director was laid off 1 year later, but the damage was done."
