"What I like the most is it's challenging and a learning experience. Remember you're working alongside with the programmer - so what he/she takes on, whether it's converting to something different for faster performance, or new functionality using newer technology, you're the one who's testing it. What can be stressful is QA gets it last. So although you know testing should never be a shortcut, there's never enough time to thoroughly test, or the QA environment can never match production. I suggest taking classes that relate to the QA work you do. If you don't do QA work take classes on SQA, black box, whitebox, or even google QA. There's lots of information on the internet at your fingertips."

"Wrong place in a good company"

What do you like about working at Hess?

"Nothing"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"It is important to find out who will be your part of your team. If your group is dominated and led by people who don't understand your situation, you are in a big trouble. Observe everything including your seating arrangements when you go for an interview. Looking back, there were many signals which should have made me not to join this group. Hess may be good company. But, if the group you work for is not good, it doesn't help any way. I decided to join this company thinking that it would be convenient in terms of long term employment, closer to place we were planning buy the house etc. It didn't take me long to realize I was in wrong place and ended up quitting and moving to a very friendly company. May be it all happened for a reason."

What don't you like about working at Hess?

"* Working with people who don't know and don't like to know regarding what it takes to develop the application systems * Working with people who think system analyst/developer is nothing but a typist/steno. As in good old days the boss will dictate what should be typed and kept ready for evening mail pick up, the system analyst at Hess is expected to sit with pricing analysts for a few minutes to understand their requirements for a new application. The application is expected to be developed, tested and ready for use end of the day. The pricing analysts are too busy to answer any questions you may have. As the typist delivers the neatly typed letters end of the day, the system analyst is expected to deliver neatly running application for the pricing analysts and their manager end of the day!!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"They should make new employees comfortable to start with."

What don't you like about working at Ingram Micro?

"When upper management changed, they started downsizing by cutting back various departments and perks. Job security became very questionable. The only benefit was with fewer employees, the amount split for bonuses became larger."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stabilize. Think more about keeping the good employees over making more profits for shareholders. You have lost too many good people with a wealth of business knowledge."
