"The mileage pay is comparable to other trucking companies, but the gross pay seems a bit low due to the per diem which is 9 cpm. My base pay is 40 cpm, but you wouldn't have guessed it from my W2s. I've talked to my CPA and he gives me the difference in tax deductions between that and the full amount I'm allowed. Quite frankly, I would opt out of per diem if I could, but they don't give that option. I never have understood how that works when the employer does the per diem. But, I'm living comfortably and reaching my financial goals, so that's a plus."
