Small Engine Mechanic
in Elk Grove, CA

"If you like turmoil...."

What do you like about working at Sunstate Equipment Co.?

"I enjoyed working on a variety of equipment. Not just small engines and tools. I thought there was a good push toward educating all the mechanics in new machines and proccesses. The other mechanics where great to work with. I'm still personal friends with most of them"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be prepared to do everything, not just turn wrenches. I mean everything. The day before the owners show up, be prepared to wash and clean the scum out of the company trucks."

What don't you like about working at Sunstate Equipment Co.?

"The management is terrible. The left hand never knows what the right hand is doing. Theres alot of favorites that get played. And one shop may be held to certain standards, while another won't be.There's alot of talk about efficiency, but no matter how in-effcient an idea or process is, if a favorite manager came up with it, then thats what had to be done. The shop is constantly under staffed, with some guys trying to do 2 or 3 peoples job. The place is in a constant state of panic."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"There needs to be a top down over haul of the entire company. More input from the boots on the ground employees needs to be take and actually used. The only reason anyone works there is because its hard to find work elsewhere right now.The place is a mess it work in. No matter how many process's they come up with, and how many inspirational posters they put on the wall, its still a struggle everyday there."
