What do you like about working at St. Joseph Healthcare?
"All the staff, except some senior management and the Nursing Manager, are great, dedicated to their work, and always advocating for their patients by demanding safe staffing. This is a family of local residents not being shipped in from Timbuktu... except, see next box."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Since they are having a wage and hiring freeze, why bother. There are other hospitals that are hiring."
What don't you like about working at St. Joseph Healthcare?
"The Nurse Manager and the CEO of St. Joseph's don't have a clue about what Nursing is about. They have cut staffing to the bare bones, demand RNs fill in overtime slots, short change patients by not having enough CNAs on any shift and expect RNs to pick up one or more primary patients with a full load of 5, not have a break RN, put the Lead RN at risk, not have adequate lunch breaks, intimidate RNs who become sick as a result of the stress placed upon them while at work, and treat staff members like they are automatons and not humans... sometimes quite shamefully, and quite degrading."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Fire the Nurse Manager and the CEO. Hire a CEO who isn't making a million plus a year plus benefits, get a real RN Manager who understands Nursing and managing and who advocates for the staff, and who actually has a California license. Demand that Title 22 regulations be followed, to include the Grasp system for staffing, and file a Federal lawsuit against the Hospital if they refuse to follow the law. Do not accept wage freezes when St. Joseph's is spending money in other areas of the state like crazy to buy new facilities while letting its responsibilities to PVH go by the wayside... that is poor management, and does not fulfill the values they claim to espouse... Excellence, Justice, Mercy, etc."
