Multidisciplined Engineer
in Rockford, IL

"OSF needs to honor their own culture of respect for employees."

What do you like about working at St. Anthony's Medical Center?

"The wonderful friends, the cooperation of staff and co-workers. I loved the nuns, they were wonderful women, and having a respect for life where abortions were not done was very important to me, and still is. I do not think I could work for a hospital that did abortions."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be sure there is a good understanding of expectations, how much staff nursing is required, how your management duties will be done, and what the compensation time policy is for hours worked over 40 in a week or 80 in a pay period."

What don't you like about working at St. Anthony's Medical Center?

"Long hours expected of management, 60 hours per week or more, without compensation for anything over 40 hours. The full and busy schedule of the department made it impossible to take comp time for hours worked over 40 hours. Also expected to function as staff nurse with taking care of patients at 90% of time, combined with full time management responsibilities which were to be done in between seeing patients or at night after clinic hours, or on weekends on a regular basis. I can understand having to do that occasionally, but this was the regular expectation."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Respect work life balance. People have families and lives outside of work, that was not respected, and the expectation was to do several jobs at once, work long hours without compensation, combine several jobs into one position, and no respect for work life balance."
