On a typical day, a solutions architect will create a solution that helps clients with their technological needs by performing any analysis and research that may be required. Afterwards, any plans developed by the solutions architect will be sent to programmers and developers to implement the project.
Skillset: Solutions architects must have strong knowledge of computer programming and network systems. They must demonstrate excellent design and critical thinking capabilities, as well as superior communication and management skills. They must be team oriented as they may be required to work with multiple teams throughout the process.
Education: Employers require that a solutions architect hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Industry certifications from popular providers such as CompTIA, Microsoft, and Cisco are also highly desired. Completion of advanced computer programming and network design courses are also highly recommended.
Career Path: A successful solutions architect must have high quality computer application and network design abilities. Pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology and consider a master’s degree to increase desirability. Industry certifications will also help increase credentials and build up a resume.
