What do you like about working at Smoke 'n' Fire?

"When I first started work there, I got the impression that people were warm and friendly. The tasks they ask of you are easy enough tasks to accomplish if you're familiar with cashiering, cleaning, and stocking. Although their expectations for such tasks might be troubling to some (e.g. vacuuming is fairly easy- vacuum an entire store in 10 minutes by yourself, not so much)."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Expect to wait quite a while for your interview, they will either be understaffed that day or just disorganized like usual. As stated earlier, the tasks they ask of you aren't the most difficult duties in the world (cleaning, cashiering, stocking, etc.), but their demands of you can make the environment stressful. Like being asked to vacuum the entire within 10 minutes and pestered when you aren't moving fast enough, or being told you have to package/stock several items after not being shown the full procedure, and so on. There are going to be moments when they leave you alone to cashier despite not fully teaching you about their system; so, I don't recommend applying to anyone who doesn't have previous cashier experience."

What don't you like about working at Smoke 'n' Fire?

"They are disorganized an unprofessional. The manager was late to the initial job interview, leaving me to wait over an hour before finally rescheduling. When hired, I told my employer I could work until 3:30pm, and yet on my first day, I was kept in the back washing dishes until 4:25; I think this is due mainly to their being no official schedule made out for me, and nothing written down. When I brought up the schedule with one of them, they looked at me shocked like I had never mentioned it before. The management is this odd mix of overbearing yet preoccupied and lackadaisical; they had no problem leaving alone to complete a task I had little to no familiarity with, but were quite demanding in that the task must be completed by the end of the day or within an allotted time period. There was a severe lack of communication among manager, as well. One person would tell me not to do something and other would snap at me for not completing that task. (E.G. The manager told me not to answer phone calls until I was more familiar with the company and could properly answer customer questions. The co-owner snapped at me for not taking messages, and the fact I told them another worker instructed me not to take calls didn't seem to matter.)"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be much more patient with employees- not show blatant irritation or disgust when they ask questions about procedures or duties. I would discuss an employee's schedule with them as soon as they are hired, as well. I would take time to show employees certain procedures, rather than throw them into the fray and expect them not to make a single mistake."

"Disorganized and unprofessional"

What do you like about working at Smoke 'n' Fire?

"Seemingly warm and friendly atmosphere when you start work there. Easy enough work and duties, as well."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be prepared to wait an hour or more when you arrive for your interview. When/if hired, be assertive about discussing your schedule and filling out your papers because your employers will be very lackadaisical about it."

What don't you like about working at Smoke 'n' Fire?

"They're disorganized and highly demanding for a company whose starting pay is only $8/hr. The hiring manager was an hour late to the interview; I arrived at 10:50 for an 11:00 appointment and sat there waiting until 11:55. I applied to be a warehouse/office assistant and they hired me to be a cashier. When I started work, they came off warm and friendly at first, but it seemed like by the second day they'd decided they didn't like me. They were short and impatient when I asked questions, as if they expected me to have every miniscule detail of company procedures memorized in my first day of work. They also put off handing me the W4s and other papers to fill out. First, it was you'll fill them out on Sunday. Sunday morning, it was you'll fill them out after work. And after work, it was we'll call you to come fill them out when we have your schedule worked out. I walked in the next business day to clock in for work with the manager came over to announce they wanted to split ways. He claimed to have left a message on my phone the day before (didn't have the balls to fire me in person). When I told him I never got a call from the company, he realized he dialed the wrong number. They couldn't even fire me properly!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Have employees fill out their papers the first day of work. Don't string them along. And if you're going to fire a person, either do it in person or, for God's sake, call the right number. Don't have them show up for work only to be fired on the floor in front of coworkers."
