"Regrettably, this is a toxic environment where a series of administrators and other dept. heads wield their power as weapons to attack and undermine staff. Part of the problem is they cannot attract truly effective and professional administrators, it's a backwater where the local powers that be don't want to have some of the services offered, let alone pay for them through taxation, and so the people they can hire to fill top positions are defensive, paranoid, want to keep their jobs, and eventually fall in line with the sick dynamic of the county populace and govt. Staff members regularly, and literally, spend their lunch hours crying in their cars. This is especially true if they don't like you, which has nothing to do with ability or quality of work, but more that you don't fit in with the small town ethos or some other more arcane reason. Without oversight from a larger entity as occurs in cities, this entire govt. system runs amok, egos and power get out of control, and woe be to those who fall on the wrong side of the current power monger. If you're considering moving to this hamlet for a job, skip over it, and keep looking. No one deserves to be treated the way this group treats staff."
