Education: There is no degree requirement to become a server. However, servers must possess basic math skills to make change, the ability to prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment, excellent customer service skills and basic computing skills to use the order system and cash register.
Career Path: Servers typically begin restaurant work as a host or busser. Potential servers should work in these positions to prove they are reliable, hard-working employees and let the restaurant manager know they would like to become a server in the future.
