Skillset: Sales specialists are required to continually educate themselves about products released by the company they work for. They must be self-motivated and able to work alone or with a team. Strong communication skills are essential as sales specialists are required to build working relationships with clients and clearly explain all products and services that are being offered.


Education: Many sales specialists have a business related bachelor’s degree although a degree in another related field is acceptable. You may also be required to have a few years of sales experience. Computer skills are also a big plus as sales specialists work with a lot of collected data.


Career Path: A key to having a successful career as a sales specialist is gaining strong research and marketing abilities. Pursue a business related bachelor’s degree and consider getting a masters degree to increase desirability. Sales related job experience and internships are a great way to gain experience and build up your resume.
