Skillset: Creative Directors must possess equal amounts of artistic flair and business acumen. A good Creative Director is able to nurture his or her employee’s creative styles, but still push them hard enough to meet deadlines and satisfy clients. Organization and communication skills are of the utmost importance.
Education: Most Creative Directors have a Bachelor’s Degree in a field like Advertising, Marketing, Design or Journalism, though a proven track record and enough experience can often trump educational credentials. Some level of management experience and organizational prowess is often required.
Career Path: A good Creative Director has a strong grasp of marketing, branding and advertising and a familiarity with the many ways in which they are implemented. A Bachelor’s Degree in a creative field applicable to Marketing will help one get an entry-level position and begin working up the ladder.
