Education:
An Associate's degree or higher in Accounting is preferred for an accounts payable specialist. Equivalent work experience in accounting will sometimes substitute for the educational requirements.
Career Path:
A combination of education and experience will get a foot in the door to becoming an accounts payable specialist. Consider pursuing an Associate's degree in Accounting, at a minimum. Chances for employment improve with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Some work experience in an accounts payable department may be required before one is considered a specialist.
