Scientific Programmer at Western Digital
in Hartford, CT

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Some excellent technical work."

What do you like about working at Western Digital?

"General Digital had some excellent technical work with some interesting caveats. General Digital lacked a site facility clearance so all the work was sanitized to the unclassified level. Most employees were moonlighters who wrote test plans and procedures while guessing at the actual use. It was akin to solving technical mystery novels. Great fun until they stopped getting contracts."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Act like you enjoy writing mystery procedures."

What don't you like about working at Western Digital?

"I felt that we were wasting the resources of those who contracted General Digital for its services. We could have been a very productive partner if someone at General Digital had been briefed into the actual work and so could provide sanitized but relevant information to the coders and testers."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"General Digital should have gotten a facility clearance so that management could be briefed into the contracted work."

Scientific Programmer at Unisys

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Being a contractor for Unisys."

What do you like about working at Unisys?

"My manager was not constantly looking over my shoulder."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"No, everything is confidential due to the military influence."

What don't you like about working at Unisys?

"Some managers allowed what I felt were bad jokes about pregnant female employees. (If a man was in this spot we would not have to worry about maternity leave)."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Some managers do not listen to the specific requests of the military."

Scientific Programmer at Unisys
in Oceanside, CA

What do you like about working at Unisys?

"When I worked at Unisys, I was contracted to the DoD. My manager allowed me to interact with the management at NOSC (Naval Ocean System Center). He trusted me. I knew I could handle the day to day rigors of dealing with the government. I was certainly able to answer all questions asked of me concerning the projects I was working on and any upcoming RFP (request for proposals). I appreciated this respect."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Learn machine language."

What don't you like about working at Unisys?

"There was a slight breakdown in communication in upper management. Sometimes one manager would tell us one rule, then the next day we would get another from someone else."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Have all management have weekly status meetings. Make sure there are no problems with communication. This was concerning the San Diego site. Perhaps this problem has been rectified."
