South Carolina Department of Transportation Employee

"I have worked at SCDOT for over 10 years now. Started out in Maintenance as a Permit Technician. Was trained and learned how to work permits so I could work myself into better higher pay position. In Maintenance I was told we had to step it up and do more since we were shorthanded and in a hireling freeze then. All the staff that I worked with then got raises, I did not,. I left that Job to take a job at the district 3 office to further my permit skill set and was told my position would turn into an CE1 level position. I do more in my current job than most Maintenance permit managers, and they come to me weekly with questions about permits that they are paid 10k more a year than me. Voicing this is nothing but a dead end and frustration to no end. I am still way below the actual work I am having to do daily. I review permits for compliance I deal with upset people telling them they cant have something for some reason or another and on top of all that I get people paid a lot more than me asking me questions they really should know. Now I am stuck cause I have to much time in this job to leave, but these people will not do the right thing for me as I was told. Now my boss the District Permit Engineer is just a revolving door for upper leadership positions to move up and out if. I have not had the same boss for more than 4-5 years. All I do is do all this work higher level work that others that get paid on average 10k more a year than me do far less and spend most of their time talking and planning their next vacation. Bad place to work. I also have a 4 year degree and I still get hated on while people with just diplomas get into positions paying 10k or more than me and my position that I have been in for over 10 years now."
