What do you like about working at SAP?
"Working for SAP means you can tell people the truth about the product (excellent, but complex and in need of careful design and implementation), and really try to build the best implementation possible under the circumstances (as opposed to billing the customer until they run out of money, and not caring about the resulting implementation, as many of the big consulting practices too often do)."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Strongly depends on the type of position and area of SAP one is applying for. Success probably involves acting as if you'd swallow anything the organization throws at you. This is not necessarily an organization that wants to hire rebels, out-of-the-box thinkers, or creative people."
What don't you like about working at SAP?
"SAP America is unfortunately a rather inflexible organization. SAP offers good benefits (although they were cut down from fantastic, European level, over the past years), but it generally pays less than competitors for the same (consulting, etc.) work. There are too many people in management (namely: CSE, AE type of people) who do not know the product well enough, tend to be somewhat spineless in conflicts, and who are getting paid too much."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Think about the customer, less about the big implementation partners, who do not care about the customers - otherwise, you end up with more failed implementations, and less respect and reputation than the product deserves. Build more systematic functional support, and more targeted services."
What do you like about working at SAP?
"The fast paced environment was to my liking."
What don't you like about working at SAP?
"Their leadership skills are lacking and they have no foresight into problems and are therefore always on the defensive and can only react to problems. Specifically, their Finance and Operations departments seem to self destruct most good initiatives that are created. The pay is not worth the amount of work that was necessary, mostly because SAP uses its own software and this means work harder, not smarter."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Management needs to figure out what they want to do and stick to it. The wishy-washiness in decision making that they present and the management by fear gets old quickly."
What do you like about working at SAP?
"Benefits package was the industry best."
What don't you like about working at SAP?
"More opportunities for people outside of Newtown Square, employee integrity needs some work along with race relations need vast improvement still. Also, still a very cliquish company."
