Staff Accountant

"I was the only one person to handle complete accounting work of two companies. MY work was highly appreciated but that d not reflect in my salaries based on my background compared to other staf."

What do you like about working at Saks Fifth Avenue?

"Flexi-time; freedom to exercise knowledge and wisedom which enhanced working capacity."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I was the longest time working in Finance Department of Fifth Avenue. Previous Staff Accountants left job in this agency in four months, six months and one year. It is not that people don't want to work there. But, it is unsecurity feeling of senior staff in the Finance Department that makes life difficult for longer-term for the qualified staff. Once the staff know this situation, they start planning to leave the agency. So, until such senior staff exist in the agency, people come and go frequently. MY tips to this company is improve your management style. Try to accept that wrong is wrong whoever does it. To secure your job, don't hide the mistake of seninor staff and don't allow quick hire and fire of junior. It will only destablise the life of the agency sooner or later. Nonprofit runs with tax payers money, so be accountable to your managemnt practice."

What don't you like about working at Saks Fifth Avenue?

"Not having consistency in what the management think, say and do. For example, the managment compared salary of Staff Accountant to other companies. But, they did not compare the number of staff and number of companies working for a certain size of budget. Real hard working staff is income generting asset in nonproift organization. The managment was biased properly judging my contirbution, which was contrary to the agency policy."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Men may come and Men may go in an organization. But the organization must go on and on which is possible only thru standard professional management practice. Frequently staf leave job in Fifth Avenue. Fifteen staff who had been working for many years left the agency during 2007. But, the management never realized its mistakes in treating junior staff unfairly. For example, I pointed the mistake of a senior staff whose negligenc in properly reading the contract led to loss of $7500 to the agency. I worked on it and brought back the money after 15 months. However, the senior staff took it as prestige issue, and retaliated me. This type of managment has led the agency run in red. So, my suggestion to the management is that be professional, judge the situation properly and give due respect to everyone, personally and financially without any bias, which will bring about better for the agency."
