"I really enjoy the part I play at the front desk. I always smile, then I make sure I can look patients and family members or visitors in the eyes (they really appreciate that). For patients, family of patients and if someone looks lost, who enters and say either good morning or good afternoon. Then when family and visitors (and sometimes veterans) are leaving I try to make eye contact and say have a good day, or have a good weekend on Friday. Then I give directions to family members or visitors. If it is too far I walk them to their appointment. I also escort others as well to offices for work-up to do a specified time at the VA while in school, or someone coming in for an interview in a specific department. Everyone is nice to me. It's like one big family and I enjoy seeing other workers offer to help a patient or visitor. I do step in often since I know the hospital better than someone who works in a specific department and they don't know about the other side of the hospital."
"I have worked at the Richard Roudebush VA Medical Center since 2013. Previous to that I spent 13 years at nephrology and Internal Medicine. I the short time I have worked here I have found my position challenging with numerous opportunities for growth. I have enormous respect for my co-workers and for those I report to.I look forward to spending many additional years here."
