"Recently worked at Republic Services, enjoyed the free fresh fruit, the cool coffee makers, with espresso, lattes, etc. Filtered water. Wear casual clothes, including jeans and tennis shoes. However the environment was not realistic. Had the feeling of "The Stepford Wives". If you make one slight move against the system, or voice an opinion, you will NOT fit into their CULTURE. On top of learning all of the steps it takes in their systems to log one call!"
"Republic Services has attempted to centralize Customer Service in 3 large regional Customer Resource Centers (CRC): Charlotte NC, Indianapolis IN, and Chandler AZ. So far this massive change in structure has been a disaster and the so-called managers running the Chandler CRC do not have a clue how to actually provide effective customer service; they are only focused on meeting some arbitrary 'production' number to beat the other 2 CRC's. The computer systems are still in early stages of development/use and the tools used by the representatives are cumbersome and often do not work or are wrong. The performance expectations of both the workers and the supervisors are unrealistic considering the total lack of support provided to the staff."
"If you do not value yourself at all, want to waste your time NOT learning any new skills that can be utilized at the next level or if you want to work for a company that does NOT value their employees or their customers, then sign yourself right up. Constant price increases on accounts, even if there are contracts in place with set pricing, not being paid on time, having to recite a foolish script every time you visit a customer while your ride along, a do nothing all day Supervisor, monitors you like a child, being told that your commission structure will completely change 9 months ago and are still in limbo on how you will be paid going forward, like non communication between departments, with local or area management and enjoy a company where you have no control over if you lose an account or not, then this place is for you. Being successful here is a joke and and the lack of opportunity is staggering. Just because you are a publicly traded company DOES NOT necessarily make you a good company. Wall Street, shareholders and sucking up to management is the culture bread here. While trash and recycling services are needed in our society, it is truly an unrewarding and thankless industry that virtually every customer you have hates you because the driver, helpers, customer service department do not have the the common sense to do the right thing in the time of uncertainty. Oh, wait, that is one of their mantras. Doing what is right by the customer in the time of indecision. I have been in the work force a long time and have been very successful. I have a family to take care of. This place, people, is not the answer to having a promising career in Sales. Good luck!"
"Support desk relies primarily on contracts assigned to no-term contacts. There seems to be a revolving door of employment and leaves little room for advancement. Job is heavily 'numbers-based' and based on total number of interactions instead of actual performance. A good place to start out but not a long term career."
"Basic position as a scale operator. Not very good communication throughout the company, if there was better communication then there may be less frustration."
"I worked for RSI, previously Allied Waste Industries, for 13 years. While I was always under the impression that my co-workers were very intelligent and highly skilled individuals, I felt that management was inconsistent and arbitrary. I personally went through 4 CEOs during my last six or so years there."
"I've worked for Republic for 4 years. This is not the place to work if you expect training or if you're looking to move up in the company. The culture is cold and collaboration is generally frowned upon."
"less than glowing"
What do you like about working at Republic Services?
"its busy work"
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"its all about perception..."
What don't you like about working at Republic Services?
"since the merger, the company has lost intrest in the employee. questions sent to corporate often go days without resolution and there is no local level decision making. there is the mentality of its about what corporate wants not about what makes sense."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"go to the worker bee's and listen. Too many policies without thinking them thru to the end results. The 30 second ad time to answer the phone is over the top. Too much mission statement and not enough personal touch. People still want personal contact, not deal with a drone."
