"The management has no concept of what it takes to run an IT department."

"Find someone with backgroud in IT systems to run the departments IT systems"

"Certain jobs don't allow much flexibility for advancement and although Penn State is a fantastic place to continue your education the opportunities don't always exist."

"A little more focus on career life balance would produce huge benefits with employee morale and loyalty."

"Negotiate the starting pay, raises can be sporatic and below market value for the area. Don't expect the job to be what's advertised, it usually sounds more glamorius than it is."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Provide opportunites for people to grow. Communicate goals prior to evaulation time with the employee (mid year review ...) No end of the year surprises on eval that affect bonuses"

"Amazing opportunities. Worked directly with company clients in meetings and in formal and informal presentations to clients and internal staff. Senior staff are skilled, knowledgeable, savvy and great teachers."

"Show an eagerness to learn and a good work ethic. Be professional, but don't worry all that much about formality if you're a programmer."

"As an intern, limited opportunity for in-company growth; would have to get lucky. Still a great experience to build towards a career elsewhere, though."

"Open Minded but strict on the job. A more macro management approach but when necessary micro management in order to get the work done"
