Program Supervisor at Goodwill
in Napa, CA

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"Good source of providing information."

What do you like about working at Goodwill?

"The opportunity to work with clients in vocational services. Clients referred were State Dept. of Rehabilitation. There were a wide range of clients with varying training and employment needs."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"It varies based on the interviewer(s). My interview was very informal and I described my interest in providing services to Goodwill and being part of the team in working with the clients and other agencies."

What don't you like about working at Goodwill?

"Very entry level job. Most management personnel lacked formal education and or degrees specific to vocational training and criteria of assessing clients appropriately to meet client employment needs. Within the training at the store, expectations of clients were unrealistic as we worked with many clients having a lack of a consistent work history; no work history or physical/developmental barriers. There was a significant lack of coordination in this area between the vocational training staff, store management and upper management."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"More specific education and trainings in serving and understanding working with clients in this setting. The company holds many trainings and meetings, but I deemed most of these to be insignificant in serving the population we worked with. There was also a lot of wasting time in meetings breaking the ice, playing games of which was deemed rather childlike by many of us. It is also an agency that places an over emphasis in recognizing employees within the agency. Though I believe in commending employees and promoting from within, the persona of this agency was creating an environment of neediness."
