"I was fine with a lower salary when the job was described as doing VB.Net software development using an existing framework in a manufacturing environment with two other Engineers in Plymouth, MI (I was a little worried about the Engineer part). I thought an easy commute, just having to add features to an existing framework, VB.Net and manufacturing, great! I found out it was a VB6-style framework compiled in .Net that resulted in horrible code, the two Engineers were spending most of their time at customer sites doing installs and support, the younger Engineer who was interested in learning new things left to pursue a new line of work and the older Engineer who insisted he wanted to learn new things resented the fact that I got to do all the coding and would be really nice up front but then give me crap. I had to completely rework the framework, make nearly all the coding decisions, some of which I knew would be unpopular with both Engineers and Programmers, and take on a lot more responsibility than I planned. It was not the easy job that I signed up for by any means."
