Electrical Engineer
in Wilmington, MA

What do you like about working at PathoGenetix?

"The schedule is very flexible. When I first started with US Genomics, there was an entrepreneurial spirit. There was a true sense of everyone working towards the same goal. The senior management was very open and honest about the current business conditions and areas of opportunity."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I would recommend waiting until after January 2010 to interview with USG. The outlook for funding is very shaky at this time. Overall, it is a very good starting job for a young engineer. The work is almost more of a support engineer job, but there are a lot of opportunities to work on the engineering fundamentals. It is probably not an ideal situation for a mid-level engineer looking to advance. The opportunities for advancement are very limited."

What don't you like about working at PathoGenetix?

"The middle management team was more reactive than proactive. It was also difficult to engineer to a constantly changing target. For instance, a lot of changes are made to the design without sufficient testing. There was also very little room for upward mobility. It appears that the company may not have much time left due to its current funding."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The middle management team could be a little more even keel. It is much easier to work for a manager that reacts well during times of stress. I would recommend leveling the workload placed upon the research associates. Some seemed to work close to 12 hours/day while others had a much lighter load."
