Account Manager

"Pason is a great company to work for. Great benefits, good pay, expense card and company vehicle. Other than the occasional late hours, it was a great opportunity to learn the oil and gas business and meet some great people. Had it not been for the downturn in the O&G market, i could have very well seen myself retiring at Pason."

Technical Communicator

"Worst time on the job I have ever had and most likely the worst boss in history."

What do you like about working at Pason Systems?

"The work was fairly simple and the deadlines weren't out of line. Most of the worker level people were competent and good natured."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you are interviewing in Technical Communications, take most things the manager says with a grain of salt because it is likely most of it is untrue."

What don't you like about working at Pason Systems?

"There were many things about the company that I didn't like. It started when I was blatantly lied to in my interview only to find out after I was hired that a lot that was said in the interview didn't come true. Then there was management and all the micro-managing tactics, status reports, two weekly meetings to tell everyone what you are working on and what you have finished or why you didn't finish something. The manager of the department was adept in passive aggressive, emotionally and mentally abusive behavior. Every day they would make you feel stupid and inadequate (I had 16 years of experience in the job). I was even told in a one on one meeting with my manager that I was not allowed to have any ideas or pass on any tips or pointers to my co-workers. Not quite an open and collaborative environment they say they have. After three weeks on the job, I packed up my desk and started to look for another job. It was so bad I hated going in every single day. I am very low maintenance on the job and hands sown, this was the worst experience on the job and the worst boss I have ever had. It is no surprise that the turn-over rate in the department is very high. I know of other people in the department that have issues with the boss and I was told by one that you have to get used to it. Personally, I have more self-respect so I chose to not deal with it. Thankfully I only had 10 weeks there and I am now in a more collaborative and less restricting environment."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"1. Be honest with your people in the interview. Don't lie to them to get you in the door to find out later that everything is turned upside down. In the interview I asked if my manager was a micro-manager and they said no (I don't work we'll with micro-managers). When I was there, I had to send my emails to my manger to proof before I was allowed to send them out.... They they would reply all and tell you all the mistakes you made.2. Treat your people like adults and you will get innovative results and a strong team. We were treated like kindergarten students that had to seek permission for everything we did.3. Understand that there are more ways of doing things than the Pason way that might actually work if you open your mind and trust others.4. Get rid of inadequate and incompetent managers and keep the good employees. Right now, the good employees are leaving because of incompetent management.5. Have HR look into departments with a high turn-over to understand why. This department had a minimum of 3 people when I was there that were at their wits end because of management yet nothing is ever done."
