"PLH/GCH is a decent place to work. Pay and benefits are competitive, and in pre-Covid 19 times, there were team building activities such as an annual employee picnic, a work day dedicated to fun, and after hours employee events. If you do your job well, you will not be micromanaged. However, the company is comprised of a leadership team made up of all white males, so you can imagine the culture this presents. The company touts 6 core values which are more lip-service than reality. If you are looking for just a job and are fine knowing you are disposable, then you will find PLH/GCH to be an acceptable employer. However, if you want to truly be valued, know that your opinions are important to the leadership team, and work where teamwork is embraced, think twice before signing on. There is a great deal of communication issues within the company (predominately from management), and the leadership team has a “good enough” attitude. Bringing up issues you witness and questioning managerial decisions will be perceived as being disrespectful. If you can handle working for a new home builder knowing that its buyers are not necessarily going to receive a new home of the quality they expect/are promised, then you will be fine working here. For me, my standards and sense of integrity were too high to stay employed after 4 ½ years. At first, I “drank the cool aid”, but in the end, I was not proud to represent the product and could no longer be party to a company which was fine delivering to its customers a “good enough” home, often paying them off instead of fixing construction issues. This was something I could not stomach; a home is typically the most expensive investment people make, and my knowing that the company was not fully committed to making things right when issues arose was unacceptable to me. But if you are fine just collecting a paycheck, and being one of the many unhappy employees in the U.S., then go ahead and pursue a job at PLG/GCH."
