"I have worked for Overstock for over 2 years. At first it was great, but then there was some restructuring on the executive level. The result was a huge increase in the amount of micro-management that takes place. Nearly three times a week, the executives review the new content to be deployed hours before the end of the day when they are due. Because they feel the need to be involved in every single change this leads to changes that must be made last minute."

"The interviews are pretty easy for a tester. Know SQL, Unix, and testing basics."

"Disorganization. Lack of leadership. Lack of structure. Lack of professionalism."

"The IT department is too big at this point to be self-organizing. Some structure would create less stress and more productivity."

"I love being able to write code daily, and still be in a managerial role, influencing the overall direction of the company."

"Your career is what you make of it at Overstock - if you're a self-starter & hard worker, you can go far."

"The company has started to encourage a culture of promoting yes men. Employees are reluctant to be honest with some executives"

"Overstock has a very strong workforce across the board - smart, dedicated employees who want the company to succeed. Management should have more trust in their staff & not reward yes men."

"Don't work for this company."

What don't you like about working at Overstock.com?

"The people were always extremely rude and unwilling to communicate on a professional level.Management was unreasonable and did nothing to stop derogatory remarks and situations in the work place.Many employees were very unprofessional in all situations.It was like being in junior high all over again. Salary was very very low for my position when others with less experience and less work made more."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop picking favorites! Learn to listen to all employees. Be more understanding and help relieve pressure from the employees that are working."

"Politics, Politics, Politics. Volatile management. Too many proprietary technologies which have little or no value outside of the companyl"

"Stop hiring Senior level people with a great depth and breadth of experience but only using a tiny percentage of thier abilities. Just hire juniors."

"I loved the culture of this company as well. The CEO was heavily involved in his company and would walk around and talk to the employees and cared what they had to say. The executive staff was the same and I loved that."

"They don't bite either!"

"Middle management was poorly chosen and my supervisor was poorly chosen and I believe those decisions should have been reviewed before they were put into place."
