Working at One Hope United in Lake Villa, IL: 1 Employee Reviews

Clinical Therapist

What do you like about working at One Hope United?

"Working with clients and families to make a difference in their lives."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Go to the interview only if you're in dire need of a paycheck. You're not going to see the problems I've mentioned right away. The grounds are beautiful and people are able to present a happy facade during interviews. People accept jobs at OHU with high hopes. Just understand that the turnover is high for a reason. The person who had that position before you most likely did not leave on a good note and I can say with 99% certainty they were not promoted. I have seen really good, bright, hopeful people with wonderful hearts come in and within a few weeks they are already dejected and depressed. If you can prepare yourself mentally for working at a place like that, and you believe you can withstand the mental games, stress, lack of support from the top, etc. then proceed. If you're a shark who loves to manipulate and intimidate others, then you'll fit right in and probably become best friends with leadership."

What don't you like about working at One Hope United?

"Ha. How much space do I have I already covered the worst aspects in a previous question: the self-serving leadership, the back-stabbing office politics, the poor financial management, the terrible worker morale. Let me add here that the leadership does not listen to employee input, and HR/quality improvement cannot touch the leadership. There is simply no way to improve the working environment there because it is already set up exactly the way that the powerful people like it, and they won't change for anyone. Good luck if you're someone who wants to have a voice or opinions. Money is ridiculously tight because the program funding has been mis-managed for so many years. They are always in the red, trying to cut expenses, laying people off, freezing raises, dropping benefits. The employees bear the brunt of the administration's poor leadership in every possible way."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The question should be: What wouldn't I do differently The administration cares about two things: their paycheck, and their friends. Those at the middle and top are completely self-serving. There are a ton of gossiping, back-stabbing politics. The programs are not managed well financially and there is always a ton of turnover. You are constantly threatened with the elimination of your program or job. Worker morale is extremely low."
